The Next Big Thing Blog Hop: Week 22

“The past few years have been full of high profile reads from across the genre spectrum. Love them or hate them, you have to admit you have at least heard of them.

As Independent Authors we all dare to dream we will be next, and let’s face it, you never know ... right? With some hard work and the right marketing any one of us could be the next most talked about Author.

With that thought, here is a author hop that is sort of like a game of tag.

One author posts, and then tags five other authors, who each link back to them. Readers have a chance to find new and exciting authors they may never have found otherwise. Some of us are still writing, others are just being released.

Either way, for you Fiction Lovers, a treasure trove awaits and I’d like to thank fellow Author Carol Marvell for tagging me to participate.”

In this particular hop I and my fellow authors. each in their perspective blogs, have answered 10 questions where you get to learn about our current WIP (Works in Progress) as well as some goodies as to our process, from characters and inspirations to photographic/ cinematic eye candy! I hope you enjoy it!

If this or any other items pique your interest, please feel free to comment and share your thoughts and questions.

1: What is the working title of your book?
The Comfort of Strangers

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?
After seeing Time Code, an experimental film, there was a song at the end of it by the same name sung by Skin (of the band Skunk Anansie). The song struck me as did the beautiful filming of a glossy, dream-like L.A. Right then I got the idea to write a sort of love letter to the city of L.A. which started out as a short film script and then eventually morphed into a short story and then a novel.

3: What genre does your book fall under?
It's more dramatic than a thriller, darker than women's fiction and romance and lighter than a standard suspense. I'd probably call it a romantic noir thriller meshed into one.

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Any which resembled the folks on the cover of the book (although the Jeff cover model on the right does resembled Thomas Jane a bit):

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
When actress Kasi Banks discovers her husband's infidelity, a game of revenge dances the edge of murder.

6: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Indie all the way baby! Just received it from the editor and going through secondary edits/rewrites now.

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Not long as it was a short script. Probably a week or two. The subsequent rewrites as it morphed into different mediums is another story. ;-)

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Double Indemnity & Mulholland Drive with a romantic suspense twist!

9: Who or What inspired you to write this book?
The film Time Code and the song The Comfort of Strangers.

Check it out and listen closely to the lyrics for some clues to the story. ;-)

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

This is a woman's journey from redemption for a mistake she made in the past in letting the love of her life go. It's a mixture of dark drama, noirish elements, a little bit if suspense and romance. Here's a sneak peak at the blurb:

Kasi Banks is at the center of a brewing storm between her distracted husband, his lawyer—who may have something up his sleeve—and her former sweetheart from college. Once in a budding relationship in college with the love of her life, Matt Phillips, she let him go for fear of losing him to distance and in the line of duty. Now, years later, Kasi is a struggling actress and wife to one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood. But all isn't well in the Banks household.

Kasi discovers her husband Jeff is having an affair on the same night she discovers her old sweetheart is back in town. Now she’s faced with a whirlwind of choices that will forever change her life. Armed with an unconventional plan to fix things by 'scaring' her husband back to her with the help of an overzealous fan, the events that follow may risk her one last chance at happiness.

It's August!

Hey folks!

Can you guys believe it's August already?

Lots of stuff going on in the world of Rae at the moment both personally and professionally. The newsletter will be going out soon and I'm diligently trying to get out a new release ASAHP that was held back a bit due to me not being happy with the end results. Stay tuned because I feel the end is nigh!

I took a breather from book reviewing and reading to deal with my current rental situation, but I miss it! I love the feeling of coming across that epic book you want to shout from the rooftops and losing myself in epic worlds. Sooooo....I'm diving back in. :-D I'm going through the list of books I had waiting in the wings and will try to play catch up. As I'm only one person with a busy schedule, I may not be able to get all the books reviewed right away and some I may sadly have to put aside if they don't grab me enough. Argh! I want to read and review everything but I can see now why so many bloggers have t…

Book Review ~ Who R U Really? ~ A Highly Recommended Read

Who R U Really? by Margo Kelly

Thea's overprotective parents are driving her insane. They invade her privacy, ask too many questions, and restrict her online time so severely that Thea feels she has no life at all. When she discovers a new role-playing game online, Thea breaks the rules by staying up late to play. She's living a double life: on one hand, the obedient daughter; on the other, a girl slipping deeper into darkness. In the world of the game, Thea falls under the spell of Kit, an older boy whose smarts and savvy can't defeat his loneliness and near-suicidal despair. As Kit draws soft-hearted Thea into his drama, she creates a full plate of cover stories for her parents and then even her friends.

Soon, Thea is all alone in the dark world with Kit, who worries her more and more, but also seems to be the only person who really "gets" her. Is he frightening, the way he seems sometimes, or only terribly sad? Should Thea fear Kit, or pity him? And now, Kit wan…
